The Afterlife Project

Tread lightly. Think ahead. Respect the reality that despite your intelligence you are inseparable from the great web of life, a species to whom much has been given and of whom much is expected in return, namely a firm commitment to stewardship as opposed to thoughtless exploitation.

Another sci-fi novel about the destruction of our earth from climate change. I still have a few more on my list this year in the same genre. This one follows two plots — one in the near future right before human civilization ends, and another in the far future (thousands of years later).

It’s sad, but it also does its best to impress upon the reader how important it is to appreciate the world around us and the organisms living and thriving within it. They will be here after we are gone. In the days following finishing this book, I found myself appreciating the sounds of birds, budding flowers, and the wind. It’s all more fragile than we think, day-to-day.
